Essential Oils for the Traveller

Essential Oils for the Traveller

Kate is a busy mum of three, a yoga teacher and doTERRA Wellness Advocate. Kate and her family escaped the bright lights of Sydney and now have their very own piece of paradise in Tasmania. Kate is passionate about educating people on the benefits of doTERRA essential oils. She shares with sassind her love of oils and recommends her favourite travel remedies.

I often get a little nervous when I travel, my feelings of unease typically get worse the longer I am on the plane. Logically I know it is fairly unlikely that impending disaster will strike but the mind is a powerful thing and loves to play tricks. I never travel without this blend of oils; Lavender, Frankincense and Cypress. Cypress is known as the oil of ‘motion and flow’ helping me to let go of the reins a little. This combination has an incredibly grounding, calming and soothing effect on my emotional state. I make up a roller and apply to the insides of my wrists and back of my neck and use it throughout the trip.

It should come as no surprise that when I am feeling a little anxious my stomach also gives me trouble, it is after all our second brain. To support my sensitive tummy, I dilute a little Digestzen in a carrier oil and massage directly onto my stomach. Digestzen is a blend of ginger, fennel, anise, peppermint and coriander. All ingredients that are naturally gentle on the digestive system. I add a drop or two to my water and sip on this throughout the trip and if I am in the car, I pop a couple of drops onto a wooden peg and clamp it over the air vents. For me, instant calm.

Air travel especially when crossing times zones can really mess with your body clock. The last thing you want to feel as you reach your holiday destination is fatigue and irritability brought on by lack of sleep. I find the quickest way to recover from jetlag is to slot into the local time zone as fast as I can. Depending on the time of arrival, I either push through until bedtime or need to wind down quickly for sleep. Whatever the case there are a few essential oils that I always carry when travelling to support me during this time.

Wild Orange and Peppermint, used individually or together, are fabulous at giving me a lift. They are energising, uplifting and incredibly invigorating. Before you reach for that sugar hit, try a drop of both oils in the palm of your hands and inhale deeply – a natural pick me up. When it comes to sleep, I cannot go past Lavender Peace. This blend is unique to doTERRA and contains a selection of essential oils that transport me immediately into a blissful state. Incredibly soothing, grounding and calming on my body and mind. I dilute this and apply topically but I love using it in the bath with some magnesium flakes.
