I have a daily morning ritual, a simple one but one that has the power to completely overhaul how I am feeling. Before I elaborate, I want you to think about the power of aroma, specifically the power that aroma has on our emotions. Before you eye roll, take a minute to reflect on how you feel when you smell a rose in full bloom? Or maybe it’s the smell of freshly mown grass? What about an orange cake in the oven? My daily ritual involves heading to my oils, cracking the lids and picking three or four scents that really appeal to me. I whack them into the diffuser and let the essential oils do their work.
When I am in need of some focus, mental clarity and motivation, I use a combination of Lemon, Peppermint and Rosemary. Two drops of Lemon and Peppermint and one drop of Rosemary straight in the diffuser. This is also a great one for children who may be dragging their heels in the morning. If I am in need of some grounding and balancing, particularly good if you have a morning yoga or meditation practice, try using some Frankincense, Litsea and Sandalwood – two drops of each in your diffuser will do the trick.
Another way I put my essential oils to work in the home is when I’m on the dreading clean. Dusting is probably one cleaning job I really do not enjoy but fire season is upon us and it has become a weekly fixture. These dusting wipes are incredibly effective, easy to make, smell delicious and make use of any old t-shirts you may have laying around.
You will need:
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and thoroughly soak the cloths. Wring them out, hang them to dry, then store in a sealed container. Viola! You will get 3 to 4 cleaning sessions from each cloth before needing to launder and repeating the process.
Fifteen cotton squares (old t-shirts are great for this)
1 cup of water,
1 cup of white vinegar
1 tablespoon of Olive Oil
20 drops of lemon essential oil and 10 drops of Rosemary essential oil (tea tree also good).
After all that cleaning, it is absolutely time for a lunch break. Want an easy, creamy AND healthy dip? Look no further. Take one avocado, add a generous dollop of Greek yoghurt, a few big splashes of EVOO & apple cider vinegar, 3 drops of lemon OR lime essential oil, season and blitz with a stick blender. That's it. This dip is perfect with corn chips and veggie sticks.
Incorporating essential oils into your life can be done with ease. I started with diffusing a few different oils, quickly moved to topical application, started flavouring my food and then completely overhauled my cleaning cupboard. They are such a wonderful thing to have access to and can have a positive impact on your emotional and physical well-being, manage mood as well as lower the toxic load in your home. If you would like to use essential oils in your home, reach out. I would be happy to help you.

When the world finally returns to normal, few domestic Australian destinations are worthy of the big travel dreams that we all hatched while under lockdown. Queensland’s Far North is an exception.
