embracing natural fabrics this winter

embracing natural fabrics this winter

At sassind we choose our fabrics very carefully...

We all know that natural feels better + is environmentally sustainable, but did you know that the majority of natural fabrics are biodegradable, moisture-wicking, breathable, durable, heat-responsive? We expect our pieces to breathe with you, envelope you in warmth as well as expel heat and sweat, which is why our collections have seasonal focuses - cotton + linen to keep you cool, merino + cashmere to keep you warm.

We create pieces that are interchangeable with each other, so the durability + longevity of fabrics used are of the utmost importance. So as we head towards the winter months our silk, merino + cashmere collections are here for you. Ready to keep you cozy in soft layers, to trap the warmth your body creates without compromising style.

Want to prolong the life of your cashmere + merino?

Wool and cashmere love the fresh air. Between each wear, hang them on a hanger and give them a little time outside. When it comes to washing, we use and recommend Australia’s very own Bosisto’s Wool & Delicate wash. It performs beautifully, is gentle on sensitive skin and contains Eucalyptus essential oil which has antibacterial properties. Recently, we have taken to adding a drop of Lavender and a drop of Cedarwood essential oil to each wash, to further protect our garments. For a comprehensive washing guide, revisit our ‘Caring for your Cashmere’

What are natural fabrics?

  • Linen – the oldest fabric known. Derived from the flax plant. Resists sunlight, washable, taut and non-allergenic

  • Cotton – the most versatile fabric. Breathable, durable and easy to care for. Also soft and hypoallergenic

  • Silk – a protein-based fibre spun by the silkworm. It is strong, drapes well, breathable, hypoallergenic and has a beautiful natural lustre

  • Cashmere – a fibre obtained from cashmere goats and other types of goats. Luxurious, soft, silky, smooth and very warm

  • Wool – a protein-based fibre that can be blended with man-made fibres. It is durable, warm, flexible and dyes well

  • Leather – animal-based product. High tensile strength, resistant to tear, strong, durable, smooth
