Since launching sassind 10 months ago, I often get asked what I enjoy most about running my own business. The answer to that is that I get to chose who to work with. I've loved being able to surround myself daily with people I respect and admire and who's company I genuinely enjoy. Our campaign photographer, Nikole Ramsay, is one of those people. We've just completed our third campaign shoot together on location near our family beach house on the Great Ocean Road. Each shoot requires much preparation. Nik and I spend hours scouting for the right location, working on the shoot list, and constantly (sometimes obsessively) checking the weather and tides.
Our winter 2017 campaign shoot used 4 locations along the Great Ocean Road; Moggs Creek, Aireys Inlet, Fairhaven, and Point Roadknight. We pick location's based on several factors. We need to consider logistics, light, and most importantly textures and colours which compliment the collection. The Surf Coast was ideal for our second winter collection because it boasts so many diverse and contrasting landscapes.
Call time for this shoot was 6 am because we had to work with the tides to get the awesome collection of shots Nik captured at Sunnymead Beach. Kate Radford, hair and makeup guru, worked her magic on our two gorgeous models for the day and had them down on the beach on schedule for 7 am. Kate's also someone we've worked with from the beginning and has shown tremendous support of the brand.
A big shout out to the girls behind the scenes too. My Mum Vick and her friend Sharon worked wardrobe getting the girls dressed and to each location. They also made sure we had a warm fire to come home to between shoots, along with preparing a sensational lunch.
Campaign shoots are now the absolute favourite part of my job. Even though the lead up can be very stressful, the team I work with on the day always make it great fun and have a fantastic CAN DO attitude. I always leave the shoot on a high excited to see how the shots turn out and invigorated after working with such a top team of professionals.
There are many Barcelonas. There’s the catch-all Las Ramblas with its flower sellers and scammers, its sex museum and world-class opera. Arrayed along its western shore El Raval has a glorious temple to modern art rising above streets that are in places gentrifying...
